Well-established back home in Nigeria, De Indispensables are now about to invade the UK airwaves with their infectious Afro-Reggae single Sweet Mama. The release is a taster from their forthcoming UK album Press On that showcases their blend of Reggae, Hip Hop and cool African vibes.
Momentum has been gathering over past six months in Nigeria where Radio PalmWine named them One of the most exciting new acts to emerge in 2005, and listeners voted them No2 in the stations charts in which they have remained since April 2005. Theyve also appeared on MNet TVs South Al Channel and Channel O alongside top Nigeria urban artists and have supported Beenie Man, Akon and Wayne Wonder at various festivals.
Recently the subject of a documentary on the international black culture channel BEN TV (Sky, Telewest etc.) they have now been nominated for the Best of Africa Awards 2006.
The single Sweet Mama features the rapper J.Boy, and shows the more Afro-Reggae end of the duos musical spectrum. Its lilting buoyant groove and cool vocal harmonies are a fine expression of their West African roots that crossover well with today culturally diverse audience. But with influences ranging from Tupac Shakur, R Kelly, Jah Rule & Young Buck this track is only one of the colours on this duos musical palette as can be seen on their debut UK album Press On (to be released this summer). The album features several guest artists including MOBO-winning rapper and Choice FM DJ Phoebe One.
Below are 2 quotes from reviews of their single Cinderella - a hit in Nigeria July 2005.
